Reevaluation of Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute disk diffusion breakpoints for tetracyclines for testing Enterobacteriaceae.

چکیده
We reevaluated Enterobacteriaceae disk diffusion breakpoints for the tetracyclines published in the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) document M100-S16, which were (susceptible/resistant) >or=19 mm/or=16 mm/or=19 mm/or=15 mm/or=14 mm/or=16 mm/<or=12 mm for minocycline. Listed modifications were recently approved by the CLSI (M100-S17).

Comparison of Disk Diffusion and E-Test with the Reference Method of Microbroth Dilution for Susceptibility Testing of Acinetobacter baumannii Isolates to Tetracyclines
Abstract Background and Objective: Due to the continuous increase of multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii strains around the world, decision making for an effective treatment of infections caused by this organism depends on the results of antimicrobial susceptibility tests. In this study, the validity of disk diffusion and E-test methods was assessed b...
متن کاملAntimicrobial resistance to cefotaxime and ertapenem in Enterobacteriaceae: the effects of altering clinical breakpoints.
INTRODUCTION The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) updated its antimicrobial susceptibility testing interpretation criteria for Enterobacteriaceae. This study assessed the effects of clinical breakpoint changes in the CLSI 2009 to 2012 guidelines on antibiotic susceptibility testing reports. METHODOLOGY In total, 2,076 non-duplicate clinical isolates of Enterobacteriaceae wer...
متن کاملMolecular characterization of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases and its correlation with clinical laboratory standards institute interpretive criteria for disk diffusion susceptibility testing in enterobacteriaceae isolates in Thaialnd.
We performed extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) phenotypic testing and molecular characterization of three ESBL genes (TEM, SHV and CTX-M) and susceptibility testing by Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) disk diffusion method against three cephalosporins (ceftriaxone, ceftazidime, cefepime) and a cephamycin (cefoxitin) among 128 Thai Escherichia coli and 84 Thai Klebsiella pneu...
متن کاملBackground and rationale for revised clinical and laboratory standards institute interpretive criteria (Breakpoints) for Enterobacteriaceae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa: I. Cephalosporins and Aztreonam.
Widespread resistance in Enterobacteriaceae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa to cephalosporin and monobactam antibiotics due to extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) has resulted in the need for reassessment of the interpretative criteria (breakpoints) established for these agents more than 2 decades ago. Following extensive evaluation, the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute recently adopte...
متن کاملTigecycline and intravenous fosfomycin zone breakpoints equivalent to the EUCAST MIC criteria for Enterobacteriaceae.
INTRODUCTION Tigecycline and intravenous (i.v.) fosfomycin could be alternative therapeutic options for the treatment of carbapenemase-possessing Enterobacteriaceae bacterial infections. However, routine laboratories are forced to test these drugs using minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) methods as zone breakpoints are not available for the disc diffusion technique. METHODOLOGY Clinical a...
